Nearly Complete
The Dulcimer Players News blog will have a new look today. Use the links at the top of the page if you're stopping by to subscribe or learn more about the new color issue. The links and subsequent pages are all working fine, even if things look a little strange here on the first page. - Dan

Just testing the comment field. Does anyone else see this?
Yep! ...and I must say, it's an interesting adventure coming to this site and seeing the changes from day to day. Great job!
Sharon,
Thanks. Have you received your DPN issue yet?
No, unless it came today. I'm still at work. I hope it came!
(I did this once but forgot to change the identity thing so I'm doing it again! :)
Most of the top, left side of DPN homepage is blank on my sceen. I can see the pic of the new cover on the right, but to the left of that is a big, white space which goes all the way down to the "subscribe today: circle. Is it supposed to look like that?
Mistydawn,
Where on the page did you see this 'Nearly Complete' article?
Also can you tell me your operating system and browswer?
MistyDawn,
Thanks for letting us know about the white space problem. We've corrected the issue.
I'll explain what was happening for anyone who is interested. The Dulcimer Players News site uses a formatting method called CSS, which stands for Cascading Style Sheets. CSS based pages load faster for a number of reasons which I won't list here. Evolving standards dictate that within a few years all web sites will be using CSS to 'style' the content of their pages.
There is a problem however in that not all browsers are standards compliant in interpreting CSS. Because not everyone is on board yet, there are a lot of great typography tricks that are possible, but simply won't work on browsers such as Internet Explorer. IE users represent the greatest number of browsers on the web today so programmers have to be careful not to be too fancy. Sometimes you have to be careful just to do simple things as well, such as making your page width scalable. In the problem you were encountering, the text should have resized based on your screen size. It wasn't, and I didn't catch it on the computers we use. It is impossible for us to test on every system out there and it helps when people let us know about problems, so thanks again.
I was able to reproduce the problem on an older laptop running IE with a smaller screen. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I also need to say thanks to Butch Ross who helped me yet again untangle my CSS code. If you're a dulcimer player in need of a web site, you should drop him a note. butch@butchross.com
Lastly, it is thrilling to read the responses as folks are getting their copies of DPN in the mail. Thank you all for the kind words. - Dan
